Battling heavy rain and strong winds throughout the 54-hole event, the Seminole State College women's golf team capped its fall season with a ninth-place finish in a talented 15-team field at Florida International University's Pat Bradley Invitational.
Hosted at the newly renovated Miami Lakes Golf Club, which remained in outstanding condition despite challenging weather, the tournament featured some of the nation's top programs. Seminole State responded with its strongest play on the final day, climbing the leaderboard to secure a top-10 team finish.
Freshman standout Rio Nakama once again led the Raiders with an impressive performance. After enduring difficult conditions during the second round, Nakama rebounded with a final-round 69 to finish tied for fourth individually.
Beyond the competition, the week provided several memorable experiences for the Raiders. The team had the opportunity to spend time with LPGA Hall of Famer and tournament namesake Pat Bradley. During Sunday's practice round, Seminole State was also joined by alumna Maria Cowan, a member of the Raiders' 2019 NJCAA National Championship team.
"It's was a challenging 54 holes with the rain and wind, but Miami Lakes was in gorgeous shape and the field gave us a great test to end the fall," said Head Coach Christa Teno. "Rio had another fantastic week to earn a top-five finish. As a team, we showed tenacity by moving up the leaderboard on the final day, but we need one more player to step up each round. Once we do that, this team will be ready to go low."
The Raiders close the fall season encouraged by their progress and will look to build on the momentum when they return to competition this spring.
