Weather proved to be the ultimate competitor this week as the Seminole State College women's golf team battled through continuous disruptions from Hurricane Isaias to earn a sixth-place finish at Wofford College's Terrier Invitational.

After Hurricane Isaias interrupted the Raiders' practice schedule in Florida earlier in the week, the storm tracked north to South Carolina, forcing tournament officials to shorten the event to 36 holes and creating challenging, rain-soaked conditions throughout the competition. Despite limited preparation time and soggy course conditions, Seminole State posted a two-round total of 30-over-par 606 (308-298) to finish sixth in the 12-team field.

Freshman standout Rio Nakama once again led the Raiders, finishing tied for first overall to earn a share of medalist honors.

After opening the tournament with a 4-over-par 76, Nakama put together one of the finest rounds of the event during the final round. The freshman fired a 4-under-par 68 to surge up the leaderboard and secure the championship. The performance marks Nakama's second consecutive top finish in as many collegiate events, continuing an impressive start to her Seminole State career.

"Coming off a disrupted practice week in Florida and stepping into a weather-shortened event in South Carolina really tested our group's grit," said Head Coach Christa Teno. "The course was extremely wet, and the conditions were tough. Rio showed tremendous composure throughout the tournament. To shoot a 68 in those conditions and finish at the top of the leaderboard was an incredible performance."

The Raiders demonstrated resilience throughout the week, overcoming travel challenges, limited preparation, and difficult playing conditions to secure a strong team finish against a competitive field.

Team Standings

  1. Eastern Kentucky – 588 (296-292)
  2. UNCG – 581 (284-297)
  3. Eastern Kentucky "B" – 597 (294-303)

The Raiders will look to carry the momentum from Nakama's victory and another solid team showing into their next fall competition.
