WINTER HAVEN, Florida - Seminole State defeated Polk State 9-5 on Wednesday, earning a season sweep over the #5 (FCSAA) Eagles. In both games, SSC used strong starting pitching and a fast start offensively to earn the win.
Andrew Spolyar (2-1) earned the win while striking out eight in six innings of work. Dylan Luna (upper right) hurled 2 1/3 relief innings collecting four strikeouts and picking up the save. Offensively, Marcos Sevillano and Jose Perez had the hot bats. "Seve" went three for four, scored a run and had an RBI on a double and two singles. Perez went two for four and had an RBI and a run scored.Â
Coach
Mike Nicholson on the win, "Spolyar was on, great command and good attitude. Luna showed some great stuff, think he is settling into his role. I loved Marcos' ABs (at bats), he competed hard and had the results we like."
On Monday, Michael Guerrero (2-0, lower right) threw five strong innings, striking out 9, scattering four hits and giving up two runs. Carson Crossley had three strong innings in relief (5K, 1H) and Dylan Luna earned his second straight save.
