SANFORD, Florida - The Seminole State Baseball team had just finished a stretch of playing the top perennial teams in the Mid-Florida Conference. A 5-3 record vs. Santa Fe (1-1), College of Central Florida (2-1) and St. Johns River (2-1) has moved the Raiders into second place in the MFC (along with a rescheduled win vs. FSCJ). Looking past Daytona State could have been disastrous. Instead, SSC took care of business and swept the Falcons this week. Seminole took Monday's game 7-4, Wednesday's road game 9-4 and closed the series at home 10-4 on Friday.
On Monday, JC Sewell (2-1) picked up the win. The big lefty threw five and a third innings, striking out two and only allowing one run on one hit. Andrew Spolyar picked up his fourth save of the year. The Raiders offense was powered by Corey King (2-3, 3 RBI, 1BB, 1HR), Hunter Noblitt (3-4, 2R, 1 SB) and Marcos Sevillano (2-5, 1R, 1RBI).
Wednesday's road win in Daytona was Rese Brown's fifth, with only one loss. The right-hander from Apopka ate up five innings allowing three runs and striking out four. Carson Crossley got his first save of his collegiate career (2 IP, 0R, 1K). King and Sevillano again contributed to the offense, both scored two runs. Edgar Alvarez (2-4, 2 R, 1RBI), Zach Levenson (2-4, 1R, 1BB) and Luke Hatcher (2-4, 2RBI, 1R) were also instrumental in the 9-run outburst.
The Raiders plated 10 runs on Friday. The offense was lead by Alvarez (3-5, 3RBI, 1R, 1HR), Hatcher (3-5, 3R) Levenson (1-3, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR) again and Marcerio Allen (2-4, RBI, BB). Sewell (3-1) picked up the win, his second of the week.
Seminole, winners of 12 of the last 15 games, will host FSCJ at 2 pm on Monday. The game will be streamed free via the Raiders Ustream page (https://video.ibm.com/channel/mK2cYDfXTtS). Fans are not allowed at on-campus games.
