Raider Take Opening Citrus Series

SANFORD, Florida - The Seminole State Baseball team is off to a good start, sitting at 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the new Citrus Conference. The Raiders took two of three against one of the more storied baseball programs in the FCSAA, the State College of Florida Manatees.

SSC won game 1 in Bradenton, 8-5. Ethan Salak (3-0, 5.0IP, 4ER, 8K) once again was sharp after the initial 3-run first and Jack Angus picked up the save. Johander Irigoyen (pictured right, 1-4, 3RBI, 2R, 1BB), Jacob Green (3-4, 2R 1BB) and Gialdri Gomez (2-3, 2RBI) led the attack for Seminole.

The Manatees and the Raiders experienced the new Citrus Conference Saturday format of a doubleheader with 7 innings in game 1 and 9 innings in game 2, unless game 1 goes extra). Seminole wasted a good pitching outing by Garrett Brewer and Connor Hensley (cover photo) who combined to give up only 3 hits in game 1. SSC could only muster three themselves.

In the rubber game of the series, Seminole State cruised to a 11-3, 7 inning victory. Carter Krachuk picked up his second win of the year, scattering six hits and three runs over the seven innings. The Raiders plated 6 in the bottom of the six to invoke the run rule after 7 innings. The big inning was highlighted by pinch-hitting Mike Rinaldi's 3-RBI hit. The sophomore crushed one to right field that was misplayed by the outfielder.

The Raiders will host CCBC Cantonsville on Tuesday at 12 noon (now a doubleheader) and Miami Dade on Thursday (2 p.m.) before traveling to Miami Dade on Saturday (12 noon) for the doubleheader.
