SANFORD, Florida - In a well played, tense game the Seminole State Baseball team took their home opener over St. Johns River (SJR), 3-2 in 11 innings. The game was a reminiscent of Game 3 of the 2021 Mid Florida Playoffs, a game that SSC won to clinch a trip to the FCSAA Regional Championships, also 3-2 in 11 innings over the same SJR team.

Seminole spotted the Vikings a 2-0 lead as SJR picked up a run in the top of the second and third. Cade Brewer's (1-5, 2RBI) base knock scored two runs for the blue and gold in the bottom of the third as Jose Perez (1-4, 1R, 1BB) and Cadmiel Pompa (1-2, 1R) both crossed the plate.
Then the pitchers took over. The SSC staff gave up only four hits over the 11 innings as neither team scored for 7 1/2. Garrett Brewer (1-0, 1BB, 2K, upper right) did notch his first collegiate win for the Raiders. Ryan Franklin started and pitched 6.0 innings, scattering four hits and striking out seven. Jack Angus followed up Franklin and threw two innings, striking out two and walking two.
In the bottom of the 11th, Freshman Nic Pepe (1-2, 1R, lower right) smacked a double to right field. Jhoander Irigoyen's (3-5) then singled to put men on corners, until Irigoyen stole second. Then VCU transfer Ryan Recio (3-5, 1RBI) cover photo) earned the Qdoba Player of the Game with the game winning RBI.
The Raiders will travel to Indian River on Friday; a schedule change in anticipation of a wet Friday in Sanford. SSC will host the same IRSC team on Saturday at 1 p.m.
